Casey's First Christmas

Casey's first Christmas was a quiet one with lots of sleeping. Because of a bad cold going around Paul and I decided to hang low and stay home. Grandma stopped by and gave Casey her first Christmas present, a bouncy chair...she loved it. Then Ginga came over to wish her a Merry Christmas.

Daddy's in Love

Casey Renee Linkogle

Casey Renee Linkogle, born December 14th at 9 am, weighing 8lbs 2oz and measuring 20 1/2 inches long.

The Labor

On December 13th while cleaning up breakfast dishes I felt a trickle of water, I wasn't sure if my bag of water had sprung a leak or if I had peed my pants. I went to the bathroom and put on a pad and went about the morning but I kept feeling little trickles so I told Paul to get ready I think my water was leaking. We had planned to put our Christmas tree up that day so I made that priority and while Cheyne and I were working on it I had a full gush and I knew my water had broken.

I wasn't in a huge rush to get to the hospital as my contractions hadn't started so I took a shower, finished the tree, ate lunch, and then headed out. My water was continuously gushing every time I stood up so I was walking around the house with a towel in between my legs. When we got to the hospital and I got out of the car another huge gush of water fell on to the pavement and Paul and I both just started laughing, it was like something you would see in the movies.

Once we got checked in they told me that there was meconium in the water which put me on a time limit to get the baby out. With no steady contractions I did everything I could to get them going. I had hopes of a natural delivery so I really didn't want to induce but after several hours of walking, squats, and sitting on an exercise ball it was time to start the pitocin to get labor going.

I started the pitocin at 8pm and by 9pm my contractions were coming fast and furious. Along with the pitocin I was give iv fluids which made me have to use the bathroom every 5 minutes. I tried to manage my own pain with breathing but at 2am I was only dialated to 4cm so I gave up I got an epidural. From that point I was able to rest and relax and at 8am I was fully dialated and ready to push. I pushed hard for an hour and with the threat of needing to suction her out I managed to push out our baby girl.

They gave her to me right away, she was perfect and one look at her I knew she was a Casey.

My Pregnancy

On the morning of April 18th I went to put on my soccer clothes and leave for my game like I do every Saturday but I was given a firm "no you are not" from Paul because I was pregnant! I had taken a test Friday night and another one Saturday morning and sure enough 2 positives. This was probably the most excited and scared I have ever been about something in my life.

Paul and I decided to start trying last October 2007 but with him working out of town it took a bit longer than I thought it would. I was actually starting to feel a little disappointed every month when my period would come because it seemed as though everyone around me was getting pregnant, everyone except me. In April everything seemed to be going as usual, I was getting all of my normal period signs but it never came. I thought it actually had come because I spotted which is normal for me right before I start but then nothing. We finally decided it was time for me to take a test. The test says it is most effective in the morning but I had bought a 2 pack so I decided I wanted to take one right away. I took the test and it immediately showed positive. Paul and I decided to wait to tell anyone until the morning after I took the second test...which of course was positive again. We decided to tell our mothers first and only a few select people until I was further along and we knew everything was good and the baby was off to a healthy start.

Initially I had no symptoms other than a little cramping and actually wanted something to feel different and at about week 8 I got my wish and quickly regretted it...I started my morning (all day) sickness. The only things that I felt like I could eat without feeling awful was cheese and gatorade. This combined with being tired made for a rough first trimester.

Our first doctor visit (11 weeks) May 21st, Paul and I first saw our little peanut:

Shortly after my first doctor appointment I had some bleeding so I was sent to have another ultrasound to check on the baby. Fortunately everything was fine and I got to see a better picture of my growing baby:

Second doctor's appointment (15 weeks) June 24th:

In the second trimester my energy returned and food tasted great. I gained weight by the book and felt great. I had my 18 week ultrasound and got to see my growing baby along with Paul and my mom but left dissappointed because the baby would not cooperate and show us the goods. They say the mother always has a feeling about what they are having and intially I thought I was having a boy until my 18 week ultrasound, I left that feeling like it was a girl.

We ended up going to a 4D ultrasound place at 22 weeks and found out we were indeed having a girl. I went to the ultrasound place with my mom, dad, Paul, and Cheyne so it was great to find out with my family and see the little girl move all around.

I also had to get a level 2 ultrasound at UCSD because my 18 week ultrasound left a question about the heart. This was really scary, I didn't want anything to be wrong with my little baby and thankfully everything checked out fine...and I got another chance to see my little girl.

Things were good until mid October when I started having contractions that wouldn't go away so after being admitted to the hospital twice I was put on bed rest for the next month (awful). At 37 weeks I came off of bed rest and expected labor to come at any moment but that didn't happen. Here I am at 39 weeks, full term with no signs of real labor.
